In other words, take the toughest classes you can handle at your school. Additionally, admissions is looking for either a consistent or upward grade trend. Your grades from junior year carry more weight in the decision-making process than those from your freshman year. How to Apply 

Applicants can apply to UIUC through one of two ways: the Common Application or the UIUC application. There is no advantage to using one application over the other. In order to apply, you will need your high school transcript, test scores (if you choose to submit any), and a credit card to pay the application fee. UIUC does not accept letters of recommendation or official transcripts when applying. 

You will be asked to directly self-report your high school courses and grades into your application. Make sure to use your transcript when you do this so that the information you enter is correct. Do not guess! 

UIUC is test-optional, meaning you’re not required to submit ACT and/or SAT scores when you apply. However, if you do choose to provide yours, you’ll self-report them just like you do your courses and grades. Note that you won’t be able to change your decision to submit or not to submit test scores after you submit your application, so carefully consider this decision.
